Elbow Replacement Surgery

Medical Case Report: A Male Patient from Kenya who went through an elbow fixation following a road traffic accident has now been recommended for Elbow Replacement Surgery after removal of the old Implants

The Patient met with a Road Traffic accident which caused major fractur in his elbow. Locally, an elbow fixation (open reduction surgery) was done.

Presently the patient faces significant pain and restricted movement of the elbow. The current X-Ray suggests that the bones have not been united properly and show signs of Infection, which we will need to investigate before coming to final line of treatment.

Treatment needed: There are 2 possibilities in this case –

1. He may need removal of the implants, followed by debridement and then reimplantation. (Less likely)

In the surgeon will first carefully remove the implants and check for underlying infection or loose bones parts. He will clean up the surgery site and in case of infection will close the site after this procedure. The patient will on antibiotics to treat the infection. But in case, there is no infection then during the same sitting the bones will be reset and then re-implantation is done. This procedure may need adding bone implants in case the surgeons finding bone loss. 

• He may need an Elbow Replacement surgery. (Most likely)

An elbow replacement is a surgical procedure where damaged parts of the elbow joint are replaced with artificial metal and plastic components. This surgery is recommended for severe pain or difficulty moving the elbow caused by conditions like arthritis or a complex fracture. The procedure involves removing the damaged bone ends and fitting prosthetic stems, which are connected by a hinge, into the arm bones.

Stay in India: The patient will require 1-2 days for initial evaluations on an OPD basis. The patient will require 3-5 days of hospitalization for surgery. Post-Discharge you may require 10-15 days for follow up and recuperation.

On Arrival:

Patient and his attendants will be received at the airport by our Arabic Speaking Representative. Apart from the medical and nursing team, one Case Manager will take care of all the needs. We shall also assist them with the reasonably charged accommodation near the hospital.  Patient and attendant may arrange 35-50 USD per day toward accommodation and food at Guest House.
