According to shared medical reports, doctors have been gone through the reports, patient is diagnosed with Damaged Aortic Valve which is giving rise to Severe Aortic Stenosis and Aortic Regurgitation.

A Damaged Aortic Valve restricts blood flow from your heart to the rest of the body. 

Aortic stenosis is a serious heart valve disease where the aortic valve becomes stiff, thickened, and narrowed, obstructing blood flow from the heart’s main pumping chamber (left ventricle) to the rest of the body.

Aortic regurgitation (also called aortic insufficiency) occurs when your heart’s aortic valve doesn’t close tightly. This allows oxygen-rich blood to leak backward from the aorta into the left ventricle instead of pumping out to the body.

Evaluations required: – Patient may need to undergo detailed physical evaluation including- CAG, ECG, ECHO, Blood tests and the entire routine test to confirm the above diagnosis.

• Coronary Angiography (CAG) a coronary angiogram is a special X-ray test. Coronary angiography is a procedure that uses a special dye (contrast material) and x-rays to see how blood flows through the arteries in your heart.

Plan of treatment: The final line of treatment will be decided post clinical and physical evaluations. Mrs. Kaur may need an Aortic Valve Replacement.

We have 2 methods of doing a Aortic Valve Replacement –

1. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), also known as TAVR or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), is a procedure to treat aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the aortic valve. The narrowing blocks the flow of blood to your body and forces your heart to work harder.

• Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) is a type of open-heart surgery used to treat problems with the heart’s aortic valve. The aortic valve controls the flow of blood out from the heart to the rest of the body.

Aortic Valve Replacement which is economical compared to TAVR. But TAVR is far less risky for those who are 60 years or above with co-morbidities. The difference between both procedures are –

1. Aortic Valve Replacement is a surgery compared to TAVR which is a catheter-based procedure (not surgery).
2. TAVR is much more expensive compared to AVR.
3. TAVR is less risky given its non-surgical nature.
4. Beyond the less surgical risk in TAVR, both procedures will give equally good results.

** Stay in India:  Patient will require 2-3 days for initial evaluations on an OPD basis. Patient will require total 8-10 days of hospitalization. The post-discharge Patient may require 15-20 days to follow up on an OPD basis. Total Length Stay in India will be approx. 4-5 weeks.
