Diagnosis – As per the shared medical reports, the patient has Wilkie syndrome. Wilkie’s syndrome, also known as Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) syndrome, is a rare gastrointestinal condition where the duodenum (the first section of the small intestine) is compressed between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. This compression leads to an obstruction, causing symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and vomiting after eating.
We will need to do some investigations upon her arrival to confirm the diagnosis.
Evaluations Needed- Patient will need to undergo detailed physical and clinical investigations, which include- Abdomen Ultrasound, Endoscopy, possibly a CT Abdomen, routine blood tests, and other related investigations to confirm the diagnosis and the treatment plan.
Treatment Plan – Final treatment plan will be decided after investigation outcomes only. In all possibilities, the patient may require Duodenojejunostomy Surgery.
Duodenojejunostomy is a surgical procedure to treat superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome by rerouting the small intestine. In the surgery, a connection is made between the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) and the jejunum (the middle part of the small intestine) to bypass the compressed, obstructed portion of the duodenum. This procedure, often performed laparoscopically, successfully relieves symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and pain in many patients when conservative management has failed.
Kindly note: The advised treatment plan is solely based on the reports shared with us; the final line of treatment will be decided post clinical and physical evaluations of the patient on arrival only.
