Bilateral Hip Replacement Surgery

Medical Case Report: A Case of 52 years Female patient from Uzbekistan Having Severe Osteoarthritis, Trochanteric Bursitis, and Bilateral Sacroiliitis Recommended for Hip Replacement, SI Joint Fusion Surgery

Findings: Based on the available medical reports, the patient has been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis, trochanteric bursitis, and Bilateral sacroiliitis. She has a history of persistent joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation, which are attributable to degenerative changes in the joints associated with osteoarthritis.

Trochanteric bursitis is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) on the outer edge of the hip. It causes sharp or aching pain on the outside of the hip and thigh, which often gets worse when you walk, climb stairs, or lie on that side at night.

Bilateral sacroiliitis is the inflammation of both sacroiliac joints, where your spine connects to your pelvis. It causes pain in your lower back, hips, and buttocks, and often links to inflammatory types of arthritis like ankylosing spondylitis.

Osteoarthritis is characterized by the gradual deterioration and thickening of bone at joint surfaces, and formation of osteophytes. These changes contribute to joint pain, inflammation, and functional limitations.

Investigations needed:
Madam Marina needs to undergo detailed physical and clinical evaluations followed by some tests such as MRI, X-ray, and some related blood investigations.

Treatment plan:
As per the available reports, the patient may require surgical interventions.
Depending upon investigative outcomes, she will be either offered.

  1. A Hip replacement
    or
    2.A Sacral Joint Fusion Surgery.

Hip replacement is a surgical procedure that involves replacing both hip joints at the same time due to degenerative changes & inflammation.

Sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion is a procedure to join your spine and pelvis permanently. It stops painful joint motion. Doctors use it when physical therapy and shots fail. Most modern surgeries are minimally invasive.
