Dr. Swaroop Gopal is a senior and highly experienced brain and spine surgeon with more than 30 years of experience in the medical field. He is currently working as the Group Director at Aster International Institute of Neurosciences and Spine Care at Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bangalore. Over the years, he has helped thousands of patients with complex brain and nerve problems and is known for his calm approach and patient-focused care.
He completed his MBBS from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, followed by General Surgery training. Later, he specialized in Neurosurgery at NIMHANS, Bangalore, one of India’s most respected medical institutes. To gain advanced skills, Dr. Swaroop also completed a Fellowship in Interventional Neurosurgery in the USA, where he trained in modern, less invasive brain procedures.
Dr. Swaroop Gopal treats a wide range of brain and nerve conditions. He specializes in brain tumor surgery and surgeries related to blood vessel problems in the brain, such as aneurysms and AVMs. He is also experienced in treating children with neurological problems, making him a trusted name in pediatric neurosurgery. Apart from neurosurgery, Dr. Swaroop has also been part of several major medical breakthroughs in India. He was involved in India’s first living donor liver surgery after weight-loss surgery and a liver transplant using the youngest donor in the country, a baby just 5 days old.
He helped lead Western India’s first and largest swap liver transplant program for both children and adults and performed the region’s first ABO-incompatible pediatric liver transplant. He was also part of Mumbai’s first successful combined pancreas and kidney transplant, contributing to a 98% success rate in liver transplants.
