Dr. Shaleen Agarwal is a leading liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon, currently serving as the Principal Consultant & Chief of Liver Transplant & HPB Services at Amrita Hospital.
Dr. Agarwal’s medical journey began at the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi, where he completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery. He went on to pursue an MCh in Gastrointestinal Surgery from SGPGIMS, Lucknow, followed by a prestigious Solid Organ Transplant Fellowship at the University of Rochester, New York, USA.
Over the years, Dr. Agarwal has developed expertise in a wide spectrum of procedures, including living and deceased donor liver transplants, pediatric liver transplants, pancreas transplants, laparoscopic and robotic donor surgeries, and complex resections for liver and pancreatic tumors. He is especially known for his work in bile duct cancer surgeries, Whipple’s procedure for pancreatic cancer, and minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques that help patients recover faster.
Dr. Agarwal is associated with the Liver Transplant Society of India (LTSI), American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), International Hepatopancreatobiliary Association (IHPBA), Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG), and many others.
His dedication and academic excellence have been recognized with numerous awards and fellowships. These include the Dr. B. Ramamurti Gold Medal for the highest marks in General Surgery in the DNB final exam, the European Society of Surgical Oncology Fellowship, and several travelling fellowships and international grants that allowed him to train with global leaders in surgery. He has also won accolades such as the Best Poster Award at the UP Chapter of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology.
