What is Foraminotomy?

Foraminotomy is a procedure that expands the spinal column region around the bones and reduces pressure on the compressed nerves. The intervertebral discs lie over and below the flat part of each vertebra to provide support to the spinal column. This chain consists of bones called vertebrae. The column of the spinal cord holds the spinal cord and helps to prevent injury. The spinal cord transmits sensory information from the body to the brain. They send and receive this information from the spinal cord. These nerves spread from the spine, and send the information, and receive it. They leave the spinal column with a little hole between the vertebras. These openings may be too small sometimes. The surgeon makes an incision on the back or neck and exposes the affected vertebra through the foraminotomy. The surgeon can then enlarge the intervertebral foramen surgically and remove all blockages.

 Treatment for Foraminotomy

During the procedure, the patient will be given anesthesia. On the part that patient has the symptoms, the surgeon will create a tiny incision beside the spine. At the stage of your damaged vertebra, the surgeon will create the incision. X-rays and a microscope are used by the surgeon to direct the surgery. The surgeon will use surgical tools to move the back muscles around the spine to reveal the intervertebral foramen that has been blocked. To remove the blockage inside the intervertebral foramen, the surgeon will use tiny instruments. Blocking can be a bone spur or a swelling disc, reducing nerve pressure. In certain instances, the patient may have another procedure, such as a laminectomy, at this stage. The portion of the vertebra is removed. The surgeon removes the instruments and puts the back muscles in position, then closes the tiny incision.
