What is Keratoconus?
Keratoconus is a gradual disease in the eye that leads the transparent layer of the eye to thin and distorts the cornea to form a cone. Keratoconus is responsible for distortions of vision, which cannot be fixed with glasses.
What are the symptoms leading to doctor’s recommendation – Keratoconus Treatment?
- Blurred or distorted vision
- Increased sensitivity to bright light and glare
- Double vision
Evaluations for Keratoconus
- Keratometry
- Computerized corneal mapping
- Slit-lamp examination
- Eye refraction
Treatment for Keratoconus
Surgical options:
- Corneal Inserts – The doctor inserts small, transparent plastic into the cornea during this procedure, to flatten the cones, to help the structure of the cornea, and to enhance vision. Corneal inserts can recover the ordinary corneal shape, slow keratoconus progression and decrease corneal transplantation requirements. This procedure can also simplify the adjustment and tolerance of contact lenses. The insertions of the corneal can be separated so that a provisional measurement can be regarded.
- Cornea Transplant – Keratoplasty penetration is the complete transplant of cornea. During this procedure, the doctors extract and substitute a whole-thick section of the main cornea with donor tissue. The inside of the cornea is preserved by a deeper anterior lamellar keratoplastic. It enables prevent this critical inside lining that may happen with a complete thickness transplant from being rejected.

Cost of Cornea Transplant is approx. USD 2400
