What is Cholecystectomy?
A cholecystectomy is a surgery that removes the gallbladder from the body. The most often cholestystectomy is done via a few small incisions to view inside the abdomen and remove the gall bladder, by placing a mini video and special operating devices. This enables the surgeon to see the gallbladder on a monitor. The gallbladder is subsequently removed by another small incision. In Open method, the surgeon discovers the gallbladder and brings it out through the incision, which is the long cut in the upper right-hand part of the stomach.

Treatment for Cholecystectomy
Using general anesthesia, cholecystectomy is done.
- Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy – The doctor will create few tiny incisions in the abdomen during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In one of the incisions, a tube with a small video camera is inserted into the abdomen. The doctor will check the operating room with a video monitor while using the surgical devices that have been inserted into the other abdomen to remove the gallbladder. The incisions are then sutured.
- Open Cholecystectomy – The doctor creates a long incision in the abdomen underneath the ribs on the right side in an open cholecystectomy. To expose the liver and gallbladder, the muscle and tissue are held away. The gallbladder is then removed by the surgeon. The incisions are then sutured.
