What is Ankle Arthroscopy?
Ankle arthroscopy is a surgical procedure using a fiber-optic camera, and small operating equipment, to act through tiny incisions in and around the ankle joint. Ankle arthroscopy is performed for a variety of ankle conditions (Articular injury, Soft tissue impingement, Bony impingement, Some types of fractures, Synovitis, Loose bodies and osteophytes, Chondromalacia, Osteochondral lesions of the talus) for surgical evaluation and treatment. This procedure is done under general or regional anesthetic. To gain access to the ankle joint, it involves using two very small incisions. Instruments can be placed to repair or remove damaged structures through other tiny incisions.

Surgical Procedure
Under general or regional anesthesia, ankle arthroscopy may be performed. The surgeon will create ‘portals’ after adequate anesthesia to obtain access to the ankle joint. The portals are placed in specific locations to decrease the injury opportunities of neighboring nerves, blood vessels, and tendons. A camera is positioned in the joint via one portal and tiny tools are used to tackle the issue through another. The length of the arthroscopy procedure depends on what your doctor will do. Your ankle is wrapped in a soft bandage or splint after surgery.
After the procedure of the Ankle Arthroscopy
In order to bear weight, few patients may be suggested crutches. If comprehensive surgery or ankle remodeling is done; your ankle may be placed in a cast by the surgeon to avoid you from moving it too early and to encourage healing.
