Prof. Dr. Somashekhar S P is a surgical oncologist and oncosurgeon at Aster Hospital, Bangalore, with over 25 years of experience. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) from Mysore University in 1994, followed by a surgery degree (MS in General Surgery) from Gujarat University in 1999. He then specialized in cancer surgery (MCh in Surgical Oncology) from Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute in 2002, achieving the highest marks in his university exams. He has received several top awards for his work, including the Dr. D.D. Patel Gold Medal and the Gujarat University Gold Medal.
Dr. Somashekhar treats cancers of all types, especially cancers of the breast, female reproductive organs, and abdomen. He is one of the top robotic cancer surgeons In India, which is a modern technique that allows him to operate with small cuts, causing less pain and faster recovery. He also performs HIPEC and PIPAC, advanced treatments for cancers in the abdominal area, and sentinel node biopsy, a procedure that helps detect cancer spread early. He was the first surgeon in India to start scarless robotic thyroid surgery and transoral robotic surgery (TORS).
He is a member of many prestigious medical societies in India and around the world. He has also authored and edited several textbooks on cancer surgery and robotic surgery and has contributed chapters to many international cancer books.
