Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement

Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement surgery Knee Replacement surgery

An incision over the front of the knee, measuring about 6-12 inches, is used for a normal knee replacement procedure. A minimally invasive knee replacement surgery attempts a smaller incision to perform the same procedure. A knee replacement is carried out to replace a metal and plastic implant of the cartilage worn out from the knee. It applies the same implants as conventional knee replacements but these implants are placed by a smaller cut.

What are the symptoms of Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement?

  • Severe knee pain
  • Swelling
  • Long-lasting knee inflammation
  • Some redness around the knee
  • Warmth around incision or knee

Evaluations for Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement

  • Physical examination
  • X-rays
  • MRI
  • Blood Tests

Treatment for Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement

The surgical procedure is similar in minimum invasive knee replacement surgery, but the tissue around the knee is less cut. The use of artificial implants is the same as for traditional replacement of the knee. Specially designed surgical instruments are however used in the preparation and correct placement of the femur and tibia. Minimally invasive replacement of your knee is carried out by a shorter incision. A smaller incision provides less disturbance to the tissue. The procedure used to open the knee is less invasive in relation to a smaller incision. Quadriceps sparing is typically done in minimally invasive knee replacement procedures, which prevent trauma in the tendon of the quadriceps and muscles in the front of the thigh. Other methods called midvastus and subvastus, which are minimally invasive, make tiny incisions in the muscle but are also less invasive than traditional knee replacement. Due to a lower disruption to the muscle, the techniques used to expose the joints may lead to less pain and a slower recovery time.
