What is TNTS (Trans Nasal Trans Sphenoidal) Endoscopic Surgery?
Transnasal transsphenoidal surgery, even recognized as pituitary adenoma, is the surgical procedure for removing tumors from the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is the principal endocrine gland that is connected to the brain base, which regulates how other cells work and grow in the body. The procedure is also done to remove tumors from the sellar area and skull sphenoid sinus. While the doctor is doing the procedure, the pituitary gland is approached via the sphenoid sinus, the nose airspace, to remove the tumor. As the pituitary gland is reached straight via the nasal path, it takes a shorter time to perform a minimum invasive procedure while the patient recovers quicker.

Treatment for TNTS (Trans Nasal Trans Sphenoidal) Endoscopic Surgery
This procedure is done with general anesthesia that is given via intravenous line to the patient. Antiseptic and antibiotic alternatives are then used to prepare the nasal cavity. With an image guiding system, which is connected to the patient’s head throughout the procedure, the surgeon navigates the nose. In one of the nostrils, the doctor inserts and routes the endoscopes to the back of the nasal cavity. The next step is to take away a little segment of the nasal septum with the support of tools and to open the front of the sphenoid sinus wall. The tiny bone of Sella is also removed from the back wall of the sphenoid sinus so it can be seen. A dura opening is used to reach the tumor and the pituitary gland. The other nostril is used to remove the tumor in parts with another tool called a curette.
