Lumbar Disc Prolapse Treatment in India – Sample Opinion

Lumbar Spondylosis & lumbar Disc Prolapse Treatment in India – Sample Opinion-Case Number – OP/2025/2011 // 49 year old female // Kenya

Case summary: According to the medical reports shared with us, Ms. AK, 49 years old, Female from Kenya, is diagnosed with a case of Lumbar Spondylosis & lumbar Disc Prolapse at L4- L5.

Lumbar Spondylosis- A condition where the lower back wears down over time due to aging, causing pain and stiffness in the spine and discs.

Lumbar Disc Prolapse- A slipped or herniated disc happens when the soft cushion between the bones in your spine pushes out through a tear. This can press on nearby nerves, causing pain. However, we would still like to confirm the severity of the condition by doing some investigations upon her arrival at our hospital.

Investigations Needed: Patient will need to go through detailed physical and clinical investigations which will include  Imaging tests like MRI scans, Nerve study, X-ray etc along with other routine tests.

Possible Line of Treatment / Plan: The final treatment plan will be decided after the clinical/physical evaluation has been completed. As of now, it is safe to comment that Ms.  AK may possibly need Surgery for decompression of nerves with excision of the ailing disc at the Lumbar spine level L4-L5. Further the disc will be replaced with spacer instruments and the vertebrae will be fixed with pedicle screws.  Technically, this surgery is called TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion). This surgery will be a Minimally Invasive and Navigation-Guided Surgery

During the spine surgery, the doctor will remove the bulged discs and replace them with spacer instruments. The vertebrae are fixed with the help of bio friendly very small 2 rods and 4 screws. This removes the pressure from the nerves. It allows the spinal cord to move naturally and gives the spine much-needed strength. The surgery is very safe and has a success rate of over 97%.

Kindly note: The advised plan is solely based on the reports shared with us; the final line of treatment will be decided post clinical and physical evaluations of the patient on arrival only.
