Ostium Secundu ASD Minimally Invasive ASD Closure Surgery

Findings – The patient has a large Ostium Secundum ASD. An Ostium Secundum Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is the most common type of congenital heart defect, characterized by a hole in the middle of the atrial septum (the wall between the heart’s upper chambers), allowing oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood to mix, leading to heart strain and potential lung issues if large.

We may need to confirm the diagnosis by doing some investigations.

Investigations needed to confirm the diagnosis: ECHO, ECG, Coronary Angiography, and some regular tests.

Possible line of treatment – The patient may need a Minimally Invasive ASD closure surgery. Minimally invasive ASD closure uses a small incision to repair an atrial septal defect (ASD), avoiding a large chest incision. It can be performed via minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), which uses small incisions on the chest and instruments inserted via a camera, or transcatheter device closure, which uses a catheter threaded through blood vessels to the heart. Both methods result in a quicker recovery, less scarring, and less pain than traditional open-heart surgery
