Dr. Edwin Francis is an excellent paediatric cardiologist with over 24 years of experience in congenital and structural heart problems. Dr Edwin, who graduated with a gold medal in MBBS from Government Medical College, Trichur, went on to study MD pediatrics and Diploma in Child Health at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Hospital & Medical College, Bombay University (1997-2000). He earned his DNB in Pediatrics in 2001, followed by his DM and DNB in Cardiology from the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology in Trivandrum in 2005.
Dr. Edwin’s special interests include balloon valvuloplasty, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure, fetal echocardiography, ventricular septal defect (VSD) repair, atrial septal defect (ASD), tetralogy of fallot, cardiac surgery, and arrhythmia.
Dr Edwin, an enthusiastic researcher, has published many research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He also participated in and delivered guest lectures at over 250 conferences of national and international significance. Dr. Edwin served on the organizing committees for PCSI 2008, i-FISCH (First Interactive Forum for Interventions in Structural and Congenital Heart Disease), and the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Conference held at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in October 2013.
He was also helpful in establishing the first-ever “Hands On Workshop” for teaching Pediatric Interventions at Amrita Hospital, in collaboration with Children’s Heart Link and Amplatzer/St. Jude. He has organised several interventional and echocardiography workshops. During Covid, he hosted a webinar series titled SCIPS, which was attended by both national and international delegates.
