Dr. Mubarakunnisa Tonse is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Hiranandani Hospital, with 18 years of overall medical experience. Dr. Tonse helps patients and families understand cancer treatment in a simple and reassuring way, making a difficult journey easier to manage.
She completed her MBBS, MD in General Medicine, and DM in Medical Oncology from reputed institutions, including Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Her MD thesis was presented at the 2013 IDF Conference in Melbourne. She has also received advanced training at Tata Memorial Hospital and attended international workshops on liquid biopsy and genetic counselling, which help in early detection and personalised cancer treatment. Earlier in her career, she also worked as a Tutor in Anatomy at KMC Manipal, reflecting her strong academic background.
Dr. Tonse specialises in treating solid tumors, especially breast cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, kidney and prostate cancer and liver-related cancers. She has special expertise in precision oncology and immunotherapy, which are modern treatments designed according to a patient’s cancer type and genetics. She also carefully manages side effects of chemotherapy, ensuring patients stay as comfortable and safe as possible during treatment. Her area of expertise includes Hereditary cancers like BRCA-mutated breast/ovarian cancers, for which she provides precision care.
Her excellence has been recognized with several awards, including the Gold Medal in Medical Oncology and the Economic Times Inspiring Oncologist Award (2024). She actively takes part in clinical trials and cancer research, and regularly serves as a faculty member and judge at major national and international oncology conferences. She is also a reviewer for the Asian Journal of Oncology, contributing to the advancement of cancer care.
