What is Abdominoplasty (Abdominal Reduction)?

Tummy tucks, also called abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery to change the abdomen’s shape. The skin and fat are removed from the abdomen during an abdominoplasty. In the abdomen, connecting tissue is strengthened generally by sutures. The rest of the skin is rearranged to form a toned look.

Abdominoplasty (Abdominal Reduction) Procedure

 The surgeon will give either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. An incision in the horizontal region between the pubic and the belly button is required to create a full tummy tuck. Excess skin will define the form and size of the incision. The underlying damaged abdominal tissues will be repaired once the abdominal skin is raised. In the upper abdomen, a second incision around the navel can be needed for removing excess skin. The skin in the upper abdomen is drawn down like a shade in the window. The surplus skin is trimmed and the rest is sutured. A new opening is formed to the belly button. The belly button is stitched into position across the surface. For closing skin incisions, sutures or skin adhesives are used.
